At this time, the United States is not our ally and will not become one.

It appears that the United States is always betraying. I deliberately write “appears” to emphasize that this is an external perception. The essence may be different, but perception is important.

I feel very sorry for the Kurds. They’re a great people, always called upon when the dirty work needs to be done. When ISIS needed to be contained, the United States rushed to the Kurds for help and made promises, but then betrayed them. The Kurds played a crucial role in overthrowing the Assad regime, but were left with nothing. Of course, Turkey and all that. But it feels like a promise and then a betrayal.

I feel terribly sorry for the brave young Iranian men and women. They were promised support, encouraged to continue protesting and seizing government buildings, and so on. They were directly promised aid. Now these young lives have been ruined; the regime has literally drowned the protest in blood. America will still feel the taste of this betrayal, unfortunately.

I feel sorry for the Venezuelan opposition, which could have given the country a chance for democratic development. But the US has chosen a different path. I’m no expert on Latin America, but I’m sure this path will lead in the wrong direction. And a lot of blood will be spilled that could have been avoided, including the blood of American soldiers.

The Ukrainian example is familiar to everyone; there is no point in analyzing it in detail.

I don’t think China will fight for Taiwan . Their strategy will be to strangle and divide it, in the best traditions of the game of weiqi (known in Japan by the name of Go). The US will not interfere. They will promise a lot, but fear blackmail and will back down. At great cost to themselves.

As Russia disintegrates, the US will assert an active position in the north and far east, because these are its vital interests. If China moves in aggressively, the US will suffer greatly. But the US will retreat at the last moment, leaving all the region’s problems in the hands of Japan and Canada.

Finally, Israel. Many people in Israel are very pro-American. It seems the US has always supported Israel, given the influence of the Jewish diaspora, Protestant values, and so on. But this impression evaporates as soon as you read the history of Israeli-American relations. It’s a sad tale of betrayal.

I’m not calling for anti-Americanism, because American history has gone through different periods—both under the Democrats and under the Republicans, with whom I’ve always been more sympathetic. We simply need to finally realize that in the current era, the United States is not our ally and will never become one. Abandon your false hopes.

What I really wanted to write about is this: Often, betraying allies (or those who have trusted us) runs counter not only to values, but also to the long-term interests of the United States. But short-term interests prevail. Transactions.

But that’s not what I really wanted to emphasize. That’s why I wrote this: if your interests conflict with your values, it’s worth examining your interests—maybe there’s something wrong with them.

  1. I admit, we’ve been a nation of betrayers. It’s mainly due to some terrible presidents that we’ve had. Clinton, Bush, Obama, Taco, Biden, Taco again … Of course, Taco is the worst one of all. While the others are basically cowards, except Bush, Taco is downright evil and exceedingly stupid to boot. None of these dorks can be trusted to make agreements with, especially Taco.

  2. “the United States is not our ally and will never become one.”

The first part is clear; I think the second part is overly pessimistic. We have to wait until all trace of the current regime is gone from government, though.

      • The next POTUS is going to have one hell of a job to do. Trust has gone and will not recover for decades.

        • That’s right. The next administration has its work cut out for it. Some of Taco’s stupidity will require lots of time to fix again. But there will always be that small dose of bitter taste on everyone’s tongue over how things could be with a Taco 2.
