Another camp has been opened in Ukraine to hold Russian
prisoners of war. It is called “Center-3”.
This is reported by the state project “I Want to Live”. They note that
this camp is not the last.
“This is probably not the last camp for Russian prisoners of war that began operating this year,” the report says.
As the project’s press service notes, the new camp was opened due to the large number of Russians who surrendered, and also because the aggressor country is blocking the exchange of prisoners of war.
In particular, in Center-3 Russians will be able to work, engage in sports and leisure. The institution has special places for cooking, relaxing and communicating with psychologists. There is a church on the camp grounds where prisoners can go.
The project notes that, unlike a terrorist country, Ukraine adheres to the Geneva Convention. Russian military personnel who are captured are not kept in colonies, but in camps and special sections at pre-trial detention centers. They have the right to contact their relatives, parcels, transfers, and work. Representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross are also allowed to visit them.
It should be added that the last exchange of prisoners of war between Russia and Ukraine according to the 100 to 100 formula occurred on February 8, 2024, after which the parties exchanged the bodies of dead servicemen several times. There were no more new prisoner exchanges.
Let us remind you that there are three camps for prisoners of war in Ukraine: “West 1” – in the Lviv region, “West 2” – in the Vinnytsia region. “Center 3” was opened in the Dnepropetrovsk region.
A few weeks ago, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, Captain Andrei Yusov, said that Ukraine plans to quickly open an additional camp for holding Russian prisoners of war. Cases of voluntary surrender of occupiers have become more frequent, in particular in the Kharkov direction, where fierce fighting continues.
He also addressed Russian military personnel, primarily from the Leningrad and Moscow military districts, who are located in the Kharkov region, with a proposal to surrender.
