Damage does not affect service provision

The fault was discovered on Wednesday morning. The company noted that due to the redundant network structure, the damage does not affect Elisa services in either Finland or Estonia.

“The damage may have affected some customers who rent direct channel connections over this cable. We are in contact with these customers and are using other cables to restore their connections,” Elisa said.

The company added that preparations to fix the problem are already underway.

Government reaction

Meanwhile, Finnish authorities have reported that a ship is suspected of damaging the cable.

In particular, Finnish President Alexander Stubb reported that authorities had inspected a vessel suspected of damaging a cable in the Gulf of Finland.

Stubb added that Finland is closely monitoring the situation in close cooperation. Джерело: https://censor.net/ua/n3593268

  1. “a ship is suspected of damaging the cable.”

The above article doesn’t give details on the ship.

The following one says it’s the cargo vessel “Fitburg”, sailing from St Petersburg to Israel.

The Fitburg’s 14 crew members were from Russia, Georgia, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, and were all held by Finnish police, investigators said. The ship sailed under the flag of St Vincent and Grenadines.
