On the night of June 18, the Rostov region of the Russian Federation was attacked by drones. The target of the strike was a fuel infrastructure facility in the settlement of Gukovo.
A large-scale fire broke out at a local oil depot after a UAV raid, according to the monitoring Telegram channel Exilenova+.
Consequences of strikes on Russia
According to local residents and eyewitnesses, the attack took place in the area of the city of Gukovo. After a series of loud explosions, a large-scale fire broke out on the territory of the oil depot.
A strong glow and plumes of smoke after the drones arrived were visible several kilometers from the scene. Eyewitnesses wrote online that emergency services and fire crews were involved in extinguishing the fire.
Rostov Region Governor Yuri Slyusar said the airstrike damaged a diesel locomotive and set two commercial buildings on fire. The official confirmed that emergency services were at the scene.
NASA’s FIRMS mapping platform, designed to detect fires and thermal anomalies in real time, recorded the fire in Gukovo as of the morning of June 18. Satellites noticed large-scale thermal signatures near the oil depot.
What is known about the object?
The oil depot in the city of Gukovo is a regional logistics hub used mainly for the storage, reception and distribution of fuels and lubricants and liquid fuels.
The oil depot’s balance sheet includes both small distribution tanks and larger technological tanks designed to store diesel fuel, fuel oil, and gasoline.
Gukovo is located right next to the border, making any large fuel and ammunition bases in the area critically important supply hubs for the Russian occupation army.
Earlier, OBOZ.UA reported that on the night of June 16, Ukrainian troops launched a new series of strikes on the Krasnodar Territory of the Russian Federation. The target of the strike was an oil depot in the village of Poltavska, Krasnoarmeysky District. After the flights, a large-scale fire broke out on the territory of the facility.
