The Panamanian-flagged oil cargo ship Meshka, bound for the Russian city of Vysotsk, ran aground in the Oresund Strait off the coast of Sweden.

The Meshka ran aground near the Swedish port city of Landskrona on Saturday – after receiving a warning that it was going off course and approaching the coast.

“We are conducting a preliminary investigation into negligence during maritime transport. One person is suspected,” said Swedish Coast Guard spokeswoman Pernilla Johansson.

According to the Coast Guard, the ship was carrying about 938,000 liters of oil.

Late Saturday evening, Coast Guard divers reported that no holes had been found in the ship’s hull.

The Meshka vessel was heading to the Russian city of Vysotsk, located near the Finnish border.

No oil spills have been recorded since the Meshka ran aground. The country’s coast guard continues to monitor the situation.
