A large-scale fire broke out on the territory of the Nizhnekamskneftekhim enterprise in the Russian city of Nizhnekamsk in the Republic of Tatarstan. A powerful explosion was heard in the industrial zone before the fire, and on the morning of July 31, local residents also reported a series of explosions and thick smoke above one of the industrial facilities
The event was reported in the evening by the Exilenova+ Telegram channel and the Nizhnyokamskneftekhim company itself on its Telegram channel. The published videos captured the moment of a powerful explosion in the industrial zone.
The company stated that the fire was localized on the territory of the enterprise, and there is no threat to people’s lives and health.

Situation at the enterprise
According to eyewitnesses, after the explosion, a large fire broke out in the industrial zone. The fire engulfed a significant part of the enterprise’s territory, and a thick column of black smoke rose above the facility, which was visible from different parts of the city.
There is also a version online that the cause of the accident could have been an overload of systems after previous drone attacks on the industrial zone. However, there is no official confirmation of this information.
The message from Nizhnekamskneftekhim states: “The fire source is being localized on the territory of Nizhnekamskneftekhim. Emergency response services have been involved in the work. There is no threat to people’s lives and health. Specialists from accredited laboratories are monitoring the quality of atmospheric air.”
The company later rushed to assure that the fire had been contained.
What is known
Local chat rooms reported that a polystyrene production facility was on fire. There was no official information about the cause of the fire at the time of publication.
It is worth noting that in the morning, residents of Nizhnyokamsk also reported explosions. In addition, eyewitnesses released footage of a flare burning heavily at one of the local oil refineries. Whether this was the result of a possible attack or a normal technological process was not officially clarified.

As OBOZ.UA reported, explosions and fires erupted in a number of Russian cities on the night of July 31. It is known that the Wildberries refinery and warehouse in Volgograd were damaged, and another logistics hub of the company was attacked in Tatarstan.
Explosions also occurred in Caspian (Dagestan), the city where the main military base of the Russian Caspian Flotilla is located.

Ukraine sure has a knack to start spectacular fires. Some of them look dystopian.
