An explosion occurred at a sewage pumping station in the Krasnoarmeysky district of Volgograd on July 6. According to preliminary data, gas exploded during welding work.
There were eight people at the station at the time of the incident, Interfax reports , citing Water Supply Concessions. According to the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee for the region, two people died and three were injured. The search for three more people was ongoing at the time of writing.
In residential buildings located next to the pumping station, windows were broken in 29 apartments. The Volgograd mayor’s office promised that the windows would be covered with film for now. “In the coming days, the double-glazed windows in the apartments will be replaced. The work is free for citizens,” the city authorities promised.
The mayor’s office also stated that they are trying to do everything possible to “not limit the supply of the utility resource, if possible.” However, “Water Supply Concessions” reported that due to the explosion at the station in the Kirovsky District, they still had to limit the supply of hot water to consumers. Cold water is supplied in the normal mode without restrictions.
Rescuers are dismantling the station’s structures that collapsed due to the explosion. There are 70 people and 28 pieces of equipment working at the scene, RIA Novosti reports , citing the regional department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
A criminal case has been opened on the incident under the article “violation of safety regulations during work”, the preliminary version of the explosion is a violation of safety regulations during welding work.
