Poland is now ranked one of America’s top five closest allies, with public support for NATO and Ukraine increasing, a new poll in the U.S. shows.

The biannual National Defense Survey commissioned by the Reagan Institute policy think tank, surveyed more than 2,500 Americans between October and November this year.

Published last week, the poll which measures Americans’ views on key domestic and global security issues, found that support for NATO has reached an all-time high, with 68% of respondents now holding a favorable view of the alliance.

More than three-quarters (76%) of Americans say they would support using military force if a NATO ally were attacked.

The survey also found that a strong majority of Americans (62%) want Ukraine to prevail in its war with Russia, while public support for sending U.S. weapons to Ukraine has climbed to 64% – up nine points since last year.

It also showed a growing support for stronger U.S. engagement in world affairs among respondents, with a majority of Americans now preferring U.S. global leadership over an isolationist approach, a rise from 40% in 2022 to 64% this year.

The poll comes at the same time as President Donald Trump revealed his National Security Strategy(NSS) which signals a dramatic shift in U.S. focus away from its European and NATO allies by stating that “the days of the United States propping up the entire world order like Atlas are over.”

It also comes at a time when Ukraine faces increasing pressure from the White House to accept a U.S.-backed peace plan, widely viewed as favorable to Moscow.

Allies and enemies

The National Defense Survey found that Americans view Poland as one of the U.S.’s closest allies, with the country coming in fifth in the poll, tied with Japan at 74%.

The UK topped the ranking with 86% of respondents seeing it as the U.S.’s closest partner, reflecting the country’s well-established ‘special relationship’ with Washington.

It was followed by Canada in third place (84%), despite backlash over tariffs imposed by Trump and his remarks about making the country the 51st U.S. state.

Finland and Ukraine tied for third position, each receiving a 75% approval rating. While Israel, despite its strong political and military ties to the U.S., ranked 8th with 66%.

In terms of perceived threats, respondents identified China as the biggest enemy (48%), followed by Russia (26%). Around 6% of respondents identified the United States itself as the third-greatest threat to the country.

Americans also identified three theaters where the U.S. should focus its military forces: East Asia (24%), the Middle East (23%), and Europe (18%), with about 49% supporting a greater focus on the Western Hemisphere, and 40% opposing.

Eroding trust

Overall, the survey found that Americans’ trust in the U.S. military has declined significantly in recent years, with only 49% declaring confidence in the institution, down from 70% in 2018, but largely unchanged from last year’s poll.

  1. Poll came from the Reagan Institute policy think tank and is completely at odds with Kremlin West policy.

“The survey also found that a strong majority of Americans (62%) want Ukraine to prevail in its war with Russia……”

Hardly a ringing endorsement, c. 58 million voters are either indifferent to Ukraine or pro-putler. The black propaganda of the magaputler shitheads has ensured this.

“….while public support for sending U.S. weapons to Ukraine has climbed to 64% – up nine points since last year.”

Very encouraging. But still far too low, since putler is waging a war of extermination and surely Americans don’t like that?

Again the blame must be on magaputler media and the putler wing of the GOP, led by Krasnov Jr.

  2. These numbers are in stark contrast to the orange-colored russian clown in the White House and his fellow gangsters, who are siding with evil.

  3. Wow even a schmuck knows what this means…TACO is a humiliation to the US and its people. He’s a freakin dictator only seeking power and self aggrandizement. What a POS!
