Why
Because I am an American devoted to my country, I am wholeheartedly committed to a Ukrainian victory.
I have been committed to that cause since February 24, 2022, and regret only that I was not more attentive in 2014. My family has roots in Lviv, Ukraine, but even if it did not, my commitment to the defeat of Russian aggression and the liberation of Ukraine would remain unwavering.
I have been fighting the Russki Mir and Kremlin authoritarianism my entire life. On the ground in Central America and Sub Saharan Africa. On college campuses and in the public square. Russian warcrimes in Ukraine are the present culmination of that fight.
I have been making television shows on WWII for twenty years, and I believe our poisoned response to our brothers and sisters in Ukraine is a repudiation of the sacrifice of the WWII generation, undermining the very best of the world they helped to secure for us.
America’s confusion and welcome of Russian values and talking points, culminating over the last half decade, especially among the heirs of Ronald Reagan, is a sign of a deep-seated sickness which reveals that they have abandoned a beautiful birthright steeped in transcended principles of law and liberty, for “a mess of pottage” – conspiracy, gossip, hatred and willing ignorance.
My own values are not shaped by partisan politics, which I loathe. Nor do I need to agree with cobelligerants on other issues to welcome their solidarity with me on Ukraine. Ukrainians view the fight for their freedom as existential for their nation. I believe it is existential for the West. The fight for Ukraine is the test of our generation. It is a moral test. It is a strategic test. It is a test of our very identity as Americans. It is certainly the defining geo-strategic conflict of our generation and in terms of military conflict involving a superpower, it is the clearest example of right vs. wrong at this scale since the Second World War.
Between myself and my father, my family has served in positions as presidential appointees to two Republican presidents. For a third Republican president we acted in the field providing vital information about Russian aggression. Now, as ballistics and drones reign down on children throughout Ukraine, and 56,000 a night shelter in the subways of Kyiv, I am grieved and repulsed by the ongoing absence of moral, strategic, lawful and human response at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue to the defining war of the 21st century – a war which has emerged as the latest crime in the context of the maniacal furtherance of the same Soviet-style vision and tactics that so many of us spent our lives fighting.
America made a promise to Ukraine. We have not kept it as a nation. God bless every individual who is doing their part to keep the promise that our leaders will not. For my part and my son’s, we are about to depart on our next Ukraine Story mission to aid in the defense of Ukraine by bringing critical power to mobile air defense units, surviving strike victims and medical responders who must have portable power to limit amputations. Yes, it is the defining war of the 21st century. Beyond the unspeakable suffering of the Ukrainian people in Russia’s war of aggression against civilians, there have been at least two other, institutional victims of consequence: the United Nations, where the aggressor continues to have and exercise veto power in the Security Council, and a strong, united NATO. In this dire context, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue has been little more than a P.O. Box.

Elizabeth Ames Coleman : I just communicated with some of my dear pilot friends in Ukrainian airforce. They need these ballistics badly. We are at a critical point. The second thing they need is portable power for ground based mobile air defense for Kyiv and other cities. I am bringing that in August. But the game the White House has played with Ukraine on defensive systems is unconscionable.

Well said. 👏 Ukraine must prevail. Putin’s Kremlin must be defeated. Separately, please can we distinguish between Putin’s Kremlin and Russia / the Russians. Just as the Ukrainians are, the people of Russia are good people. The Russians love their children too.

I concur with what his pilot friend says.
I too have a contact who has just had to take early retirement from the air force and he says they are also very short of AAM’s.
Our once great nation is an utter failure. The previous presidents since 2014 were spineless cowards and the current one is a criminal and terrible traitor.
