Russian columnist Alexander Nevzorov on the controversial statement by Petr Tolstoy, deputy speaker of the Russian State Duma.
Appearing on a propaganda program on the Russian TV channel “Pervy,” Petr Tolstoy called on Russia to launch strikes against Ukrainian cities to demoralize the population and force it to surrender. The Deputy Speaker of the Russian State Duma suggested warning residents of Ukrainian cities about upcoming strikes a day in advance and giving them the opportunity to leave the settlements.
“Do you think we’re calling for cruelty? No, we’re calling for demoralizing the public to such an extent that they’ll come out with their hands up to meet our troops,” Tolstoy declared.
