The French president called on the French-speaking world to share a common vision of the wars in Ukraine and other regions of the world.

French President Emmanuel Macron warned the international community against ” double standards ” in armed conflicts such as those in Ukraine and the Middle East, making the statement at a summit of Francophone leaders on Friday.

Thus, addressing the summit participants, Macron expressed his conviction that the French-speaking world can act as a common diplomatic front, defending the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity throughout the planet.

“[The French-speaking world] is a place that speaks the same language about Ukraine, which is today under attack, whose borders and territorial integrity are threatened by Russia’s war of conquest. But it also defends a vision where there is no room for double standards, where all lives are equal in all conflicts around the world,” Macron said.

Developing his thought, the French president noted that there will be no peace in the Middle East until Israel and Palestine agree to exist within the framework of two separate states.

It is worth noting that Macron is one of the few Western leaders who publicly criticizes Israel’s actions in Palestine and now in Lebanon, the latter a former French colony.

What is the French-speaking world?

“The French-speaking world” or “Francophony” is a group of countries and regions of the world where, for certain historical reasons, French is the official, dominant, or fairly widespread language. In addition to France itself, this list also includes countries such as Belgium, Switzerland, Canada, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, the Republic of Congo, and others.

France is trying to use these historical and cultural-linguistic ties to strengthen its own influence in the world. However, in recent years, these efforts have been undermined by a series of coups in French-speaking African countries (Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger), where anti-Western and pro-Russian military juntas have come to power.
