Baku supports Ukraine’s territorial integrity, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated during a press conference following a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. “Azerbaijan and Ukraine support and will continue to support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of their countries in all international organizations,” Report.az quotes Aliyev as saying . The Azerbaijani leader also said that he and Zelenskyy “exchanged views on military-technical cooperation, and there are great prospects here as well.” He added that the military-industrial complex in both countries is developing, and there are “great opportunities” for joint Ukrainian-Azerbaijani production in this sector.
“Today, Ukraine and Azerbaijan signed six documents in various fields. The key one is the defense industry. We will develop and deepen our cooperation,” Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram. He added that arms production “can bring stability to our peoples” and act as a deterrent to potential aggressors. The leaders also discussed cooperation in the energy sector and humanitarian affairs, Zelenskyy noted. The Ukrainian president also emphasized that Kyiv is ready to hold another round of trilateral (US-Ukraine-Russia) peace talks in Azerbaijan if Russia “also chooses diplomacy.”
“It’s crucial for Ukraine that Russia finds the strength to end this unjust war. We certainly value the role of our partners in mediating this process… We are ready for trilateral negotiations. We held such talks in Turkey. We held such talks with our American partners in Switzerland,” Zelenskyy recalled.
The two leaders met in the Azerbaijani city of Gabala on Saturday. The parties also discussed expanding cooperation in energy, agriculture, and the activities of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
