Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny became a laureate of the “Knight of Freedom” award, which was established by the Polish Kazimir Pulawski Foundation . This was reported on the fund’s website.

The Freedom Knight Award has been awarded since 2005 to people “who have made a significant contribution to the advancement of democracy, freedom and equality around the world.” Previously, the only Russian who received it was Mikhail Khodorkovsky.

The award ceremony will take place in Warsaw on 5 October. Instead of Navalny, who is in the colony in the Yves Rocher case, his associates Vladimir Milov and Leonid Volkov will receive the award.

Earlier this year, Alexei Navalny became a laureate of the Boris Nemtsov Foundation Prize (he donated the money part of the prize to the families of political prisoners) and  the Geneva Forum for Human Rights Prize .
