On the afternoon of August 8, an air raid alert was declared in Sochi and other southern Russian cities. People are being evacuated from beaches, and the airport has restricted the departure and arrival of aircraft.

RBC-Ukraine reports this with reference to Russian Telegram channels.

According to Russian monitoring channels, air raid sirens have been declared in Sochi, Adler and Tuapse. The alarm signal is also being heard in the Bryansk, Vladimir, Nizhny Novgorod and Ryazan regions. According to them, the air defense system is allegedly working and shooting down drones over the sea in the Krasnodar region.

Temporary restrictions on the arrival and departure of aircraft have been introduced at Sochi Airport. Previously, restrictions were also introduced at Gelendzhik Airport.

Sochi Mayor Andrey Proshunin reported on Telegram that the city’s air defense system is actively operating. He called on residents, especially those living near the coast, not to go outside and stay indoors without windows.

Videos of people being evacuated from beaches have appeared on social media.

In addition, due to the threat of drone attacks, the Psou checkpoint on the border with the unrecognized republic of Abkhazia was temporarily closed.
