AI vs. ballistics: what new air defense systems can Germany send to Ukraine for testing?

07/21/2025

Germany may send the latest air defense systems to Ukraine for testing . In particular, the IRIS-T SLM air defense system. They use artificial intelligence against ballistics.

Reuters reports this. Journalists refer to the Ukrainian platform Brave1. According to the group’s statement, the companies will send their products to Ukraine, conduct online training on how to use them, and then wait for the Ukrainian Armed Forces to test them.

“It gives us an understanding of what technologies are available. It gives companies an understanding of what actually works on the front lines,” Artem Moroz, head of investor relations at Brave1, told Reuters at a defense conference in Wiesbaden, Germany.

He added that there was significant interest in the scheme, but did not name any companies that had signed an agreement to use it and declined to go into detail about how it would work or what the costs would be.

“We have a list of priorities. One of the main ones will be air defense, such as new air defense capabilities, drone interceptors, guidance systems based on artificial intelligence, all solutions against glide bombs,” Moroz emphasized.

Unmanned waterborne systems and land-based electronic profile systems are also priorities for Ukraine, as are advanced fire control or guidance systems based on artificial intelligence to improve the accuracy of howitzers.

Recall that US President Donald Trump said that he would supply weapons to Ukraine, and the Europeans would only have to pay for them. However, Germany complained that Europe would have to not only pay, but also supply the weapons itself.

In June 2025, Ukraine and Germany agreed to supply our Defense Forces with Iris-T air defense systems to protect against Russian missile and drone attacks. A plan for the next three years for the supply of this military equipment to Ukraine has already been agreed.

As a reminder, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer hinted that London may join Germany in purchasing weapons from the United States for transfer to Ukraine. Although this was not announced after the British Prime Minister’s meeting with the German Chancellor, relevant negotiations are already underway.

As OBOZ.UA reported, on July 14, Trump met with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the White House. After the talks, he announced that Ukraine would soon receive 17 Patriot air defense systems from the United States . Many of them will immediately go to the battlefield.

Two days later, the US president announced that
Patriot interceptor missiles for anti-aircraft missile systems for Ukraine were already being shipped. According to him, the current deliveries were being made at the expense of stocks from Germany, and the United States would receive a full refund for the weapons for Ukraine.

  1. “MAY SEND.” In other words media’s way of saying, not a chance but it’s nice BS to write.
