Agreement between Kyiv and Moscow will be difficult to digest, says Turkey

Ankara calls on the US to join security guarantees.

Any peace agreement between the Russian Federation and Ukraine will be difficult to accept, but it is better than continuing hostilities.

This opinion was expressed in a comment to Reuters by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who participated in the meeting of foreign ministers in Brussels. He noted that Ankara supports the American proposal for a ceasefire, but Kyiv and Moscow “remain a little far away” from any agreement:

“It will be extremely difficult to accept any proposal. But when we look at the other option, which involves more death and destruction, I think any terms that we have … will be more reasonable.”

According to Fidan, Europe alone will not be able to provide Ukraine with security guarantees, so they are now making great efforts to force Washington to participate in supporting its security.

Turkey’s role in the negotiations

Recall that earlier, Turkey, which has the second largest army in NATO, announced the possibility of sending its troops to Ukraine as part of a potential peacekeeping mission.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed the issue with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during separate meetings in Ankara.
