AFU Pilot Shot Down Shahed With An Interceptor At A Distance Of 500 Kilometers

The interception has become a world precedent.

Operator of the Bulava unit of the Bohdan Khmelnitsky Independent Presidential Brigade Roman with the call sign “Hulk” shot down two Iranian-Russian “Shahed” drones. The military man himself was at a world-record distance from the point of shooting down.

The military was able to hit two enemy drones with the help of a drone-interceptor STING at a distance of 500 kilometers. This is according to a report by the manufacturer Wild Hornets in Telegram.

“Roman “Hulk” from the BULAVA unit shot down two Shaheds that were 500 kilometers away from him,” the statement reads.

The Wild Hornets say this is the first time such a practice of shooting down enemy drones has happened. After all, no one before the Ukrainian military has not tried “at such a distance from the launch point to shoot down and not one, but two Shaheds”.

“So when we say: farther – more. These are not just words! So further is more,” the company representatives point out, hinting at further successful use of interceptor drones.

  1. That is amazing. I had no idea that interceptor drones could have such a range.

  2. Interesting. Wikipedia says “Sting has an engagement range of up to 25 kilometers.” I wonder if this is the second-generation model, or if an intermediate drone was used as a repeater.

      • “Its likely the 500km was the distance from the operator to the point of impact”

That’s what I’m assuming. But engagement range refers to the maximum distance from its launch point at which the drone can successfully hunt and neutralize an enemy target. That’s why I’m wondering what it was launched from.

I also saw mention that a second-generation model has already been developed, but that its technical specifications were being kept secret. If the second-generation model has an engagement range of over 500 km (310 miles) that would be very cool. (If it’s first gen but was launched from a “mother ship” drone; that’s also pretty cool.)
