Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that in late 2021, Russia turned to the United States for “security guarantees” because Kyiv was allegedly “persecuting and killing” Russians and Russian-speakers. Moscow was then refused, which “left it with no other choice” than to start a full-scale war against Ukraine.

He said this in an interview with the Hungarian publication Magyar Nemzet, Censor.NET reports .
According to him, after 2014, Ukraine allegedly began to “persecute and kill” Russians and Russian-speakers. He repeated a number of typical Kremlin statements about the events of the Revolution of Dignity, Crimea, and Donbas.
“The Kyiv regime declared war on the Russian language and Russian culture. Contrary to the Constitution of Ukraine and Kyiv’s international obligations to protect human rights and the rights of national minorities, laws were adopted that prohibit the use of the Russian language in education, science, culture, the media, advertising, services, and even in everyday life, and representatives of the Russian nationality who did not want to give up their ancestors and traditions were subjected to total discrimination,” Lavrov explained.
In addition, Lavrov stated that NATO “has not been a defense alliance for a long time.”
He stressed that “the appearance of NATO bases in Ukraine and the involvement of Ukraine itself in the belligerent alliance poses a direct threat to the national security” of Russia.
That is why, according to the Russian minister, the Kremlin decided to launch a “special military operation.”
“This situation is unacceptable for us. Therefore, at the end of 2021, we turned to the US and NATO with a request to provide Russia with security guarantees without changing Ukraine’s non-aligned status. Our initiative was rejected. The West continued to “pump” Ukraine with weapons with the aim of forcibly resolving the Donbas and Crimean issues. In the end, we were left with no choice but to launch a special military operation. I am sure that any self-respecting country would have done the same in this situation,” Lavrov summed up.

What the hell did he smoke? Good stuff…………
“The Kyiv regime declared war on the Russian language and Russian culture. ”
The russian speakers of Mariupol and other Ukrainian cities must be very grateful you liberated them, by slaughtering them in their 1000s. Problem is, too many fucking “experts” especially in the US believe this BS spouted by horseface.
It took him four years to make this up? ruSSia invaded Ukraine in 2014 and all counter-measures taken were a response to the brute attack on Donbas and its people. ruSSia could start by finally fucking off from Donbas and Moldova, then we talk about Crimea’s future. BTW, i didn’t know horses can talk, except for mister ED…
mister ED was his father………………..
😂
But Horseface never complains about NATO bases right next to Moskovia in Finland.
More info on the new Ukrainian language laws:
Ukraine’s language law, officially titled “On ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as the state language,” prioritizes Ukrainian in various public spheres, including government, media, and education. While aiming to strengthen national identity and revitalize the language, the law also acknowledges the rights of national minorities to use their own languages.
Key aspects of the law:
State Language: Ukrainian is the sole state language and is to be used in official duties, public administration, and most public life aspects.
Minority Languages: The law guarantees the right to use minority languages in pre-school and primary education, alongside Ukrainian.
Broadcasting: At least 75% of content on national television and radio channels must be in Ukrainian.
Print Media: A minimum of 50% of printed books and media must be in Ukrainian.
Services: While Ukrainian is the language of service sectors, clients or patients can request services in other languages.
Education: Ukrainian is the primary language of instruction, but other languages, including English and those of national minorities, can be used in specific contexts.
Private Communication: The law does not regulate private conversations.
Concerns and Criticisms:
Minority Language Rights:
Some concerns have been raised about the protection of minority languages, particularly Russian.
Impact on Russian Speakers:
There are concerns that the law could marginalize Russian speakers, especially in regions with large Russian-speaking populations.
Enforcement:
There have been questions about the practical implementation and enforcement of the law in various sectors.
“Nationalism” Accusations:
Some critics accuse the law of promoting ethnic nationalism, although the Ukrainian government maintains that it is necessary for national unity and identity
