Accuracy can increase tenfold: the Armed Forces of Ukraine have significantly increased the effectiveness of FPV strike drones

The Ukrainian Armed Forces have begun to actively use the new TFL-1 terminal guidance system. The use of this system on the battlefield marked a significant breakthrough in the use of FPV attack drones.

As reported by the French publication Le Monde , this innovative technology significantly increases the accuracy of hits and makes it possible to overcome critical problems associated with electronic warfare (EW) and complex terrain.

Autonomous strike

The main advantage of the TFL-1 system is its ability to provide autonomous guidance of the drone in the last 400-500 meters of flight. In this section, the drone often loses contact with the operator due to the operation of enemy electronic warfare equipment or enters an area where communication is blocked by terrain. With TFL-1, artificial intelligence takes control, independently directing the drone to a previously captured target, even in the complete absence of a video signal and telemetry.

The military, who tested the system, note that it makes it possible to successfully strike equipment hidden behind the folds of the terrain or in conditions of powerful electronic warfare suppression, where an attack was previously impossible.

Functionality and accessibility

The TFL-1 system has already been certified by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and is actively used by approximately 20 brigades on the front line . The module has three main operating modes: green – manual support by the operator, red – AI guidance (first-level neural network), blue – second-level neural network, optimized for work on military equipment.

At the same time, the cost of one TFL-1 module is only $50–100, which does not exceed 10% of the price of an average combat FPV drone. Such accessibility makes the technology’s implementation as fast and widespread as possible.

Further development

The developers from The Fourth Law are not stopping there and are already working on five subsequent versions of the system, gradually increasing the autonomy of drones. According to experts, such innovations strengthen Ukraine’s leading position in the field of military unmanned technologies and are a key factor in increasing the effectiveness of combat operations.

Today, the cost of the TFL-1 system, according to information on the manufacturer’s website, varies from 6 to 26 thousand hryvnias, depending on the camera used in the module.

Accuracy can increase tenfold: the Armed Forces of Ukraine have significantly increased the effectiveness of FPV strike drones

As OBOZ.UA reported, the aggressor country Russia plans to produce up to 120,000 cheap and destructive aerial bombs this year. Among this number may be about 500 new bombs that can fly up to 400 km.

  1. This could be a very promising development in drone warfare, which Ukraine is already a leader. And, anything that increases the chances to kill roaches or destroy their gear is highly welcome at any rate.
