American multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) M142 HIMARS have been working at the front against the Russian occupiers for a week now. During this time, Ukrainian soldiers have already been able to draw the first conclusions about the results of their use.

The journalists talked to Lieutenant Koval, a member of the crew of one of the four HIMARS vehicles. The officer spoke about the first combat use – the destruction of the headquarters of the Russian army in Izyum, which the occupiers placed in one of the city’s schools. 17 Russian soldiers were killed, including a colonel and two majors. Another 20 Russians were injured.

A few days later, the same crew hit the Russian barracks, which housed a significant number of invaders.

As a result of the third attack, four HIMARS were operating simultaneously. A total of 24 missiles were fired at Russian positions in the same area. The invaders suffered huge losses.

The fourth attack of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was carried out on an ammunition depot in the city of Zymogorye in the Luhansk region.

“We dream of having longer-range munitions for HIMARS to hit more important targets,” Koval said.

According to the publication, HIMARS operates mainly at night to minimize the exposure of Russian UAVs. The simultaneous attack of four MLRS occurs from different sides. Entering target coordinates and launch takes less than a minute. Immediately after the strikes, HIMARS leave their positions.

Another HIMARS crew spoke about the success of the MLRS to journalists from The Washington Post. A warrior with the call sign “Frost” noted that HIMARS gave more freedom in choosing positions. An important advantage of weapons is satellite navigation. The military is confident that the missile will simply hit the target, even if there are settlements on the flight path. The real deviation when hit by HIMARS missiles is less than a meter.

“I have no doubt that we will hit. I know that the missile will hit the target, because it is controlled by satellite,” Moroz said.

The MLRS chassis can reach speeds of up to 100 km / h, and the system itself fires quite quietly compared to Soviet counterparts.

Three marks for effective hits have already been applied on board the vehicle, but the fighter with the call sign “Kuzya” specified that there were six successful attacks. The remaining three simply did not have time to designate.

As the newspaper writes with reference to the military, the Armed Forces of Ukraine need a minimum of 50 launchers, so that batteries of 4 vehicles can operate on each important sector of the front. Now there are only 4 such MLRS. However, even these HIMARS achieve amazing results and destroyed 10 important targets in a week.

At the same time, the Pentagon confirms the successful use of HIMARS in Ukraine. A high-ranking official of the department stressed that the Armed Forces of Ukraine can now be confident in the accuracy of strikes.

“The Armed Forces of Ukraine have made significant progress in using HIMARS systems, hitting enemy command posts. Ukrainians can now choose targets that will undermine the Russian army more carefully and destroy them more systematically than when they had to fight with shorter-range artillery systems,” the official said in a comment. CNN .
