A structurally complex part of the structure was attacked: Pletenchuk explained the plan for the third attack on the Crimean Bridge

The Security Service of Ukraine struck the Crimean Bridge today, June 3, marking the third attack on the structure. This time, a key, structurally complex part of the bridge was attacked, and the consequences could be quite serious.

This was stated by the spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy, Dmytro Pletenchuk, on the FREEDOM TV channel. He noted that the Russian occupiers use the Crimean Bridge primarily for logistics.

The structure had previously been damaged as a result of a similar operation carried out jointly with the Navy.

“And its throughput was reduced. It was noticeable. And for the garrison, which, accordingly, could not transfer, for example, heavy equipment by echelons, because rail communication is the main logistical tool of the Russian army. Before that, maritime logistics were destroyed,” Pletenchuk noted.

He emphasized that the Crimean Bridge combines the physical, classic component of war and the equally important ideological one.

“And no less important, of course, is the ideological part. Accordingly, for the Russians, this blow, especially the blow that came after the previous one, no less painful, is, of course, something that can unbend several staples. And the so-called Crimean bridge is one of these imperial staples,” Pletenchuk said.

According to the spokesman, the Russians previously understood that there was a possibility of losing the Kerch Bridge, so the occupiers are developing land logistics, trying to connect Russian Rostov-on-Don with Ukrainian Crimea through the occupied territories in southern Ukraine.

“They are developing road infrastructure, railway infrastructure. It has a plus – it is easier to restore. But its big minus is that it is located much closer to the line of combat contact. Accordingly, the Russians understand that a cut-off bridge is a problem,” the Navy spokesman explained.

Pletenchuk noted that this time the SBU attacked a structurally complex part, which is located directly next to the canal, so this also applies to shipping. And the impact of such a key part of the bridge can have quite serious consequences.

“I remind you that this part of the sea, the Kerch Canal itself, is our area of responsibility. And officially Ukraine has banned the passage of ships for quite some time. That is, coastal warnings were issued by Ukraine not even in 2024, but in 2023. That is, officially this shipping is closed. But with all this, many people violate. And ships, including those under foreign flags, pass through the Crimean Canal. As for the bridge itself, this is the part that is one of the key ones. And if it is hit, the consequences can be quite serious,” he said.

As OBOZ.UA reported, the Security Service of Ukraine conducted a new unique special operation on June 3 and struck the Crimean Bridge for the third time. The operation to plant explosives underwater near this structure lasted several months. Currently, the bridge, according to the SBU, is in an emergency condition.

  1. So, the SBU got two flies with a single swipe, the transport capacity on the bridge and the shipping lane going through the span. What a brilliant idea.

    • Back in 2022 they used frogmen; incredibly dangerous even then, but even more so now. But it’s hard to work out how they did it without them, unless underwater drones are even more sophisticated than we thought.

      • I suppose the Ukrainians made lots of progress even in underwater drones. I suspect that a lot of time was invested during the preparation efforts to perfect the drones’ ability to accomplish this complex task.
