US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken , in his speech at the UN General Assembly, condemned Russia’s intentions to annex the occupied territories of Ukraine through pseudo-referendums.

According to  CNN , he stressed that this move and the intention to mobilize even more reserves is a flagrant disregard for the principles of the United Nations.

The Secretary of State said it is not surprising that Russia is taking these steps now – after the failures on the battlefield and the growing concern in the world about the war it unleashed

“This is a sign of Russia’s failure,” Anthony Blinken said.

“We see that in recent weeks Ukraine has made significant progress in reclaiming its territory captured by Russian forces after the February 24th aggression. This is also a time when Russia has seen a major change in trends on the battlefield, and even some of the closest associates are clearly expressing concern that what the Kremlin is doing and what consequences it will have for the world,” Blinken said.

The Secretary of State stressed that the US will never recognize Russian pseudo-referendums in the occupied territories and attempts to annex them.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on September 20, French President Emmanuel Macron reacted to the holding of so-called ” referendums ” in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. The French leader assured that the international community would not recognize them.
