The Polish Prime Minister emphasized that the person who was to be the victim of the assassination attempt was inconvenient for the Putin regime.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk said during a press conference that a Russian citizen was detained in Poland on August 7, who was instructed to commit the murder of a person who is simultaneously a citizen of the United States and Ukraine, Rzeczpospolita reports .

The publication shared that the head of the Polish government reported that the detained Russian citizen was recruited by Russian special services and had the task of killing a citizen of both the United States and Ukraine in Warsaw.

“This is a citizen who has two passports,” Tusk clarified.

He emphasized that the person who was to be the victim of the assassination attempt was inconvenient for the Putin regime.

“At the last moment, thanks to the actions of the Internal Security Agency (ABW) and the police, we managed to prevent this execution, this assassination attempt. I am not authorized to disclose names,” the Polish Prime Minister noted.

As RMF FM unofficially learned, the target of the assassination attempt was an entrepreneur from the defense industry who supplied products to Ukraine.

The perpetrator, believed to be a 29-year-old resident of Donbas, was detained in the Mokotów district of Warsaw by officers of the Anti-Terrorism and Homicide Department of the Metropolitan Police Department. The operation was carried out with the participation of officers of the anti-terrorist unit.

The Polish Prime Minister emphasized that this is “the first case when someone, at the behest of Russia, decides to carry out an assassination attempt on an American citizen on the territory of another NATO country”:

“We must assume that the Putin regime will try to eliminate inconvenient people for various reasons in different parts of the world, so our actions in this matter will be extremely intensive in order to prevent possible further attempts directed against citizens of Poland or other countries on the territory of our state.”

Tusk also said that he had a long conversation on this matter with the Minister-Coordinator of the Intelligence Services.

“In the future, we will probably also be under such pressure, so we have a hard job ahead of us to avoid such scenarios,” he said.
