MOL is the largest oil and gas company in Hungary and has the status of a transnational corporation.
An explosion has occurred at the plant of the country’s largest oil and gas company, MOL Group, in Hungary. The incident was reported by the country’s newly elected Prime Minister, Peter Magyar, on Facebook.

“An explosion occurred at the MOL plant in Tiszaujvaros. One person died, several were seriously injured. Energy Minister Istvan Kapitan, together with Zsolt Gernady (chairman of MOL, – UNIAN), are heading to the scene,” the report says.
The prime minister later reported that seven people had suffered serious burns. Firefighting efforts are currently underway. Magyar added that flare-ups are being observed on the damaged section of the pipeline.
A mobile laboratory of the civil protection service has already arrived at the scene and is conducting measurements. According to the Telex publication, ambulances and rescue helicopters are also continuously arriving at the scene. Windows were broken in some houses near the plant.
MOL Group itself issued a statement saying that the explosion occurred during the restart of the Olefin 1 unit at Mol Petrolkémia. The specific circumstances of the incident were not disclosed.
