The Russian gas project Nord Stream 2, which was stopped due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, was called “dead” in the United States.

This was stated by US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, reports NDTV .

“I think that Nord Stream 2 is now dead … It is a piece of metal at the bottom of the sea, I don’t think it will ever be revived,” Nuland said.

She also added that Nord Stream 2 has no hopes for the future.

As UNIAN reported earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on February 22 that Germany  had stopped the certification process for the  Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. According to him, this is a response to Russia’s decision to recognize the independence of the “LPR” and “DPR”.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba calls on international partners  to apply more sanctions against the Russian Federation  after the gas pipeline certification is stopped.

Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that sanctions against Russia should contain  a complete stop of Nord Stream 2 .

After that, the United States of America imposed sanctions against the operator of Nord Stream 2 in response to Russia’s recognition of the terrorist organizations “LPR” and “DPR”.
