A petition “On the termination of Ukrainian citizenship of Odessa City Mayor Gennady Trukhanov ” has been registered on the website of the President of Ukraine .

The authors appeal to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to consider the issue of revoking the citizenship of the current mayor of Odessa.

“In open sources, materials of journalistic investigations have repeatedly appeared, which contain data on Gennady Trukhanov’s possession of a Russian passport and a Russian tax number. These facts indicate that he has dual citizenship, which contradicts the Constitution of Ukraine,” the petition states.

The authors emphasize that in the context of a full-scale war with the Russian Federation, such a situation creates risks for national security and undermines trust in local authorities.

The petition also notes that Trukhanov’s public statements and his defense of monuments with Russian imperial symbols only confirm the threats he may pose to the state.

“We ask that the stated fact regarding the dual citizenship of Gennady Trukhanov be verified and, if confirmed, the mechanisms provided for by law be applied. A person who has the citizenship of an aggressor state cannot hold an elected position in Ukraine,” the appeal states.

The authors also recalled the tragedy in Odessa on September 30, 2025 , when people died due to bad weather and inadequate information to citizens, which, in their opinion, further exacerbated distrust in the mayor.
