A participant in the battles for Rabotino told why the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ summer counteroffensive failed

According to the fighters, the command obviously did not have a complete understanding of the Russian defense.

Before the start of the summer counteroffensive , the Ukrainian military command had little understanding of the real level of Russian readiness for defense. This opinion was expressed in an interview with UP by soldiers of the 65th brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, who took part in the battles in the Rabotinsky direction.

“We were told that the task was to reach Tokmak or at least to Sladkaya Balka (a village 6 km south of Rabotino – UNIAN). But the leadership either had bad intelligence or did not understand how many Russians there were. The Russians resisted, they had everything “It was mined – there was a mine on every meter. There was an unharvested wheat field there, and when it burned down, it was clear that the mines were lying next to each other,” recalls a fighter named Alexander.

According to him, in those conditions, Ukrainian units needed to act in a different way – “perhaps remotely demining.”

“That’s why this counteroffensive has not advanced much,” the fighter believes.

He also complains that the losses of the Ukrainian brigades in this battle were very heavy. Of the 80 soldiers of Alexander’s company, only 6 soldiers remained “combat ready” at the end of the counteroffensive.

  1. There were numerous reports on regular news sites about the defense lines the roaches were building. Thus, it’s difficult to believe that the Ukrainian supreme command were caught unawares. On the other hand, why did they attack anyway if they knew. Or, why did they persist to keep attacking when it because too obvious that it was futile under the circumstances? Will we ever find out?
