The new checkpoint in Krasnoilsk (Chernivtsi region) on the border with Romania will start operating in October.
This was reported by Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Mustafa Nayem, reports the National Industrial Portal with reference to Ports of Ukraine .
According to him, the team of the Ministry of Infrastructure managed to convince the Romanian colleagues that a full-fledged cargo checkpoint is needed instead of a small passenger one, because “it is not just a symbolic opening of the checkpoint, but the expansion of our export corridors that is important.”
“Today we are already publicly ready to announce that an informal agreement on this with our Romanian colleagues was reached back in July of this year. And the other day, we received the corresponding official note, which finally secured the status of a full-fledged cargo crossing point for Krasnoilsk,” said Nayem.
As the deputy minister noted, the crossing point is almost ready, only minor engineering works and laying of communications remain. Also, on the Ukrainian side, the construction of a high-quality access road is being completed.
“The checkpoint is planned to be launched in two stages. At the first, already in October, vehicles weighing up to 7.5 tons and empty trucks will be allowed to pass through Krasnoilsk. And this will partially relieve the load from the only cargo checkpoint Porubne — Siret. On the second, after the installation of the necessary equipment and the completion of works on the Romanian side, the checkpoint will work, according to our agreements, as a full-fledged freight crossing. In the future, up to 5,000 trucks will cross the border via Krasnoilsk — Vikova de Sous every month,” Nayem said.
At the Porubne checkpoint, there are constant queues of trucks in both directions. According to the information of the State Customs Service of Ukraine, as of September 21, at the Porubne – Siret checkpoint, 1,150 trucks were registered for exit, and 450 for entry.

Looks like a quite well constructed site that had foresight to alleviate congestion from other areas.
