On the night of May 25, a machine gunner from the mobile fire group of the 14th Radiotechnical Brigade of the Air Force, which is stationed in Odessa, shot down four Russian Shahed-type attack drones.

As reported by the Pivden air command, this happened in the Nikolaev region.

“I am worried now, when I realized what a job I did, when my brothers and friends started greeting me in the morning,” says the soldier. “But during the night combat mission, I had no worries, only concentration on the task – to destroy an enemy air target! Yes, now I am happy with the result, but there is no reason to relax. I must always be ready to repel enemy attacks – for the sake of Ukraine, for the safety of every family!”

Andrey worked with the American Browning M2 machine gun, to which they also attached a thermal imager, which proved itself excellent both on the battlefield and in the rear – as a means of air defense.

The machine gunner’s result is not a record. For example, in March, a mobile fire group of the same 14th brigade shot down five “shaheeds” in one night, and there are known cases when one crew recorded six or even seven destroyed drones.  

However, since then, Russian tactics have changed, which has negatively affected the effectiveness of mobile groups armed with machine guns.

“More and more often, the ‘shahids’ are flying at very high altitudes – 2-2.5 thousand meters, yesterday altitudes of up to 3 km were recorded, and there were reports of 4.9 km,” Oleg, a serviceman in the Naval Air Defense Unit, told Dumskaya. “You can’t even try to hit such targets with a Browning machine gun, you can definitely hit them at altitudes of 500-1000 meters, I would even say 500-700. One and a half kilometers is already luck. So, my brother did the impossible, it’s a real feat.”
