General Zaluzhny has been forced to step aside by his President. War and politics are a strange mix with different priorities. Zaluzhny has been an extraordinarily successful General and that success has given him a very high popularity rating among his men. They know that he has not wasted their lives.

However, it is important to understand the pressures that Zelensky has to face every day. The western sponsors of his war are demanding more results. This pressure creates a need for more demanding and costly leadership, a new General that is prepared to take more chances and take more casualties to achieve objectives. With the procrastination of the USA the long term plans of General Zaluzhny have come under the pressure of time. Ukraine might run out of time and money, which is Putin’s hope and strategy.

Zaluzhny has been at war for two years, perhaps he needs a rest, perhaps he is so fixed in his strategy that he has become blind to alternatives. He is stepping aside as a hero of Ukraine, a great and popular General. His days are not over, there is no disgrace in this change. I have no doubt that he will still be in the picture and that he will be back, perhaps in a ministerial role.

Both parties have been wisely reserved about commenting on this issue. For the good of Ukraine it should remain so.

On another subject. The sad Little Tucker’s interview with Putin is flooding social media. Don’t be curious, don’t listen and don’t contribute.
