A good deal for Ukraine

A good deal for Ukraine.

Russia continues to pour millions into propaganda against Ukraine, attempting to persuade the western world that we are wasting our time and hard-earned resources fighting for a nation that in Russian words is ‘illegitimate.’

At a time when in the UK, we are feeling dissatisfied with our declining nation, this rhetoric sounds attractive and even convincing.
‘We have no money and yet we are giving it away to a country that isn’t even part of NATO.’

We are paying higher taxes because of our support for Ukraine.’
‘We have taken thousands of refugees and housed them when we have insufficient housing for our own people.’

If that sounds familiar, it is because these opinions are posted daily on social media and in the corporate press. If fear doesn’t motivate us, the alternative is always going to be greed. These announcements are regularly followed by the lie that Russia is searching for a ceasefire or talks. There is no evidence that Russia has asked for talks or offered any grounds for talks. The only ‘offers’ put forward by the Kremlin are demands for a Ukrainian surrender.

The only way Ukraine would by forced into a defeat is if we in the west think it is in our benefit to withhold our support. Our excuse being that it is costing too much.

Consider for a moment what the cost would be if Ukraine was to capitulate.
First, there would be an enormous refugee crisis as forty million people try to get into NATO countries.

Having witnessed the actions of Russian troops in the early days of the war, Ukrainians would expect torture, rape, and pillage to be their everyday experience. Ukraine would be robbed and after ethnic cleansing would be reduced to corrupt thuggery. All this on the borders of Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, and the Black Sea.

If we are not spending enough on defence now, I anticipate we would find our taxes increased threefold if the Russian threat sits firmly on the Polish border.

‘The Russians Are coming!’ Germans more than anyone recall what those words mean.

Investing in Ukraine saves us money in the long term, it saves the lives of our own soldiers in the short. Investing in Ukraine ensures that Ukraine will house and employ its own people. Ukraine will grow new crops and open new farms, new ports and feed the world again. Ukraine will lead the world in military technology. That is a good deal!

Ukraine has the largest, best equipped and most battle experienced army outside of the USA. If those forces fall into the hands of Putin, who knows what the costs might be. Putin hopes we will abandon Ukraine from fear or greed.

Ukraine gives blood, we give our treasure. That’s a good deal in anyone’s book. Security costs money. If we cannot rely on DJT to know a good deal when he sees one, then we in Europe must dig deeper.

Slava Ukraini!

  1. As usual, everything that Mr. Horsfall says is the truth. It’s mind-blowing to know how many people choose to ignore the threatening, dark clouds roiling on the horizon. The very fear and greed and indifference WILL give way to pure horror when a combined mafia and Ukrainian army stands at the ready to take the next European country. Poland, Slovakia, Romania, and the Baltics should have real grounds to fear this scenario. Where will NATO be in all of this? An organization disunited and too cowardly to protect its own airspace?
Once the Bundeswehr must dig its own trenches before Berlin, it’s game over. There is no way they will stop the brutality of a mafia-Ukrainian onslaught. The few NATO members joining the Germans won’t be much help either. And don’t count on the unpredictable orange one. He’ll say, “I told you so! Now do something for your own defense.”
Ukraine is the last bulwark to a most evil and violent horde. Remember that when you start counting peanuts.
