Today, almost the entire volume of military assistance to Ukraine – about 99% – is provided by the European Union and other European states.

This was stated by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Ukraine Heiko Thoms, reports Censor.NET .

According to the diplomat, European support is currently comprehensive and flexible.

“We either provide Ukraine with financial assistance so that your Armed Forces can become stronger, or we supply European defense equipment. And in those areas where we do not have the necessary capabilities, we purchase them for you,” Toms emphasized.

The ambassador emphasized that European partners are dramatically increasing their own military capabilities. In particular, Germany will triple its defense budget between 2022 and 2030.

Despite certain bureaucratic nuances, the EU is demonstrating impressive dynamics:

•  For the period 2026–2027 alone, a military aid package worth an astronomical 60 billion euros has been approved for Ukraine.
•  Financing and procurement are coordinated through large-scale instruments, including the European Defence Fund, the SAFE loan programme and the European Peace Facility.

Heiko Toms also noted the successes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, indicating that Ukraine maintains a technological advantage on the battlefield and demonstrates high efficiency in delivering precise strikes against the rear logistics of the Russian occupiers.

Attack on Lavra is an attack on identity, – ambassador

Separately, the German diplomat mentioned the recent Russian shelling of Kyiv, during which the Assumption Cathedral of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra was damaged. As Toms admitted, he personally visited the cathedral with a tour a few days before the attack.
