80% ready: it has become known when the construction of the Baykar plant near Kyiv will be completed

Turkish drone manufacturer Baykar has completed 80% of construction of its plant near Kyiv. The enterprise should be ready for operation in 2025.

“We have already completed 80% of the construction and are ordering equipment. The production date will be determined by the progress of the war, but the plant will be ready in August 2025,” Baykar director Haluk Bayraktar told Reuters .

The plant is expected to produce the Bayraktar TB2 drone or its heavier TB3 variant, which can carry a greater payload.

Weapons factories in Ukraine

In September 2024, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that, amid delays in military aid supplies from Western allies, Ukraine would begin producing its own weapons underground . The idea of Ukraine increasing its own weapons production was also approved by US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin at a meeting in Ramstein.

In July, it was reported that global defense giant Rheinmetall had received its first major order from the Ukrainian government to build an ammunition plant in Ukraine. It provides for the complete technical equipment of the plant up to its commissioning.

And in June it became known that the German arms company Rheinmetall opened a plant in western Ukraine. This plant repairs Leopard 1 battle tanks and Marder infantry fighting vehicles. Its location is kept secret.
