Russian Lt. Gen. Sergei Milchakov, commander of the 51st Combined Arms Army, may have been killed in a Ukrainian missile strike on a Russian military headquarters in occupied Donetsk in late August, independent Russian outlet Important Stories reported on Sept. 14.
Milchakov commanded Russian forces involved in the capture of Avdiivka, New York and other settlements in Donetsk Oblast.
Reports of his possible death emerged after several Russian pro-war bloggers and propagandists wrote on Sept. 14 that a prominent Russian “hero” had been killed without identifying the person by name.
Milchakov may have died in Ukraine’s Aug. 26 strike on the headquarters of Russia’s 51st Combined Arms Army in occupied Donetsk, according to the reports.
His death has not been officially confirmed by either Russia or Ukraine.
Some Russian Telegram channels initially claimed that Alexei Milchakov, the head of the Russian neo-Nazi Rusich sabotage and assault group, had been killed.
Important Stories reported that the two men may have been confused because they share the same surname.
If Sergei Milchakov’s death is confirmed, he would become the 23rd Russian general reported killed during the war against Ukraine, according to Important Stories.
Ukraine struck Russian command posts in occupied Donetsk on Aug. 26.
Ukraine’s General Staff later confirmed strikes on the main and reserve command posts of Russian military formations in occupied Donetsk Oblast.
Numerous explosions were reported in Donetsk that day, with monitoring channels reporting Russian military casualties.
One of the strikes hit a site near 97 Illicha Avenue.
OSINT analysts reported that six missiles struck a two-level underground parking facility that was believed to have been used as a Russian military command post.
Independent analysts previously identified one of the targets as a suspected headquarters of Russia’s 51st Combined Arms Army.

Let’s hope this potato general is dead and his entire staff too.
