US President Donald Trump has dramatically changed his rhetoric towards Russia. He had at least three good reasons for doing so.

This is what journalist David Ignatius, who covers international politics, writes about in a column for  The Washington Post  , citing his own informed sources in American politics.

  • First, Trump believed that Putin was showing him disrespect by pretending to be ready for peace but ignoring the US president’s call for a ceasefire.
  • Second, he saw the effectiveness of US military power in using B-2 bombers and Tomahawk missiles against Iran.
  • Third, he believed that Putin would negotiate only under the threat of greater force.

“As the Russians like to say, Trump has decided to ‘escalate to de-escalate.’ Trump made the right choice, recognizing that Putin will not make concessions without increasing pressure. But the president has also chosen a course of escalation, the risks of which are unknown,” the journalist noted.

Interestingly, the one question Trump didn’t want to answer during his Oval Office briefing on Monday was: If Putin decides to continue the escalation, how far are you willing to go in response?

“Don’t ask me, ‘How far?'” Trump replied sharply. “I just want to settle the war.”

Ignatius writes that if Trump can make this new pressure campaign work, he could earn himself a Nobel Prize. However, the journalist warns that “there may still be a lot of explosives on the road to peace.”

  1. Taco’s fifty-day moratorium is nothing less than continued weakness towards the war criminal. He has already given the vampire more than enough time.

  2. “Second, he saw the effectiveness of US military power in using B-2 bombers and Tomahawk missiles against Iran.”

Great, so when do they arrive in Ukraine?
