11 thousand residents have left the Krasnoyarsk district of the Belgorod region, which borders Ukraine, said the head of the region, Vyacheslav Gladkov.

“Yesterday, residents of the Krasnoyarsk region left their settlements. Due to the operational situation, more than 11 thousand people left,” Gladkov said in a video message on the morning of August 13.

According to him, about a thousand residents who left are in temporary accommodation centers.

On August 12, Gladkov announced that the authorities were beginning to “relocate” residents of the Krasnoyarsk District, adding that “we have an alarming morning” and “enemy activity” was noted at the district’s border. That evening, the authorities closed entry into the Krasnoyarsk District. The head of the district administration, Andrei Miskov, reported that the operational situation “remains tense.”

The Krasnoyarsk district of the Belgorod region adjoins the Ukrainian border on the western side, and the Belovsky district of the Kursk region on the northern side, where a Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance group entered on the night of August 11. In the Belovsky district, the evacuation of residents also began on August 12.

According to the results of the 2020 census , just over 14 thousand people lived in the Krasnoyarsk region at that time.
