Couched in dry technical budgetary language, the Scholz government has declared German #military aid for #Ukraine frozen, effective immediately.
The budget limits have already been met you see.
Never mind who set those limits.
ā The ban is already in place, and Ukraine’s situation may also soon worsen, as planned military support is to be cut almost in half next year and then reduced to less than a tenth of the current amount in 2027.
However, things look different from the Ministry of Finance’s perspective. Christian Lindner’s letter of 5 August shows that he does not expect a sudden reduction in funds for Ukraine, arguing the money will now come not from the federal budget but from the frozen assets of the Russian central bank.
Using frozen russian assets instead sounds nice, but the G7 decision is far from being implemented and is legally controversial. No one knows how long it will take.
š¤ One source in the German government said that a point has been reached beyond which Germany can no longer make any more promises to Ukraine. This would fulfill the pre-election demand of the pro-russian “Alternative for Germany”, the party of Putin’s friend Sahra Wagenknecht to stop supporting Ukraine with weapons as soon as possible.
The banality of appeasement of evil.
āļø It sometimes seems like from the very start of this, a significant amount of Europe has continued sleepwalking, or just isn’t aware of the gravity of this situation we are in.
They didn’t even mean it when they said “As long as it takesā¦.”
ā½ Note that Germany has special responsibility for Ukraine.
By championing Nord Stream, Germany laid a virtual tank path right across Ukraine, destroying any leverage it had with Russia (like the gas pipes running through Ukraine).
Germany continued this support even after #Crimea was invaded, directly funding and enabling the biggest war in #Europe since WW2.
š The savage coalition of Russia, North Korea, Iran and every enemy of western civilization was right when they assumed that western greed would eventually lead to surrender.
There isn’t enough champagne in russia for the party that’s about to take place in the Kremlin š

Comment from :
It makes sense to use frozen Russian asset first but Germany, NATO and America need keep the flow of financial and military aid flowing until Ukraine regains all of its lost territory including Crimea.
Small correction: Sarah Wagenknecht and her demands are from “Bündnis Sarah Wagenknecht” (BSW). They are far-left. Ironically, they share the same Putin-Love as the far-right “Alternative for Germany”. Together they will likely get about half of the votes within some of the Eastern German states – which should know a bit about Russian occupancy. Scholz unfortunately doesn’t have enough spine to say “in that case we better increase aid”.
Is Germany the first NATO domino to fall? How much was lost and spent in other wars? Is it not worth it? Absolutely it is. This will be a new tactic by States of Terrorism. Engage western nations in protracted wars with two aims: 1. Win new territory AND/OR 2. Weaken the economy, thus a friendly narrative arises for more totalitarian/autocratic despots to rise. China is watching.
Dear commentators, yes, it is a drama with our federal government supporting Ukraine. Please read the international statistics on the aid provided to Ukraine so far. Germany is the second largest supporter after the USA. Perhaps you should set your sights on other countries so that they can catch up in terms of support. By the way, Poland (955,000), the Czech Republic (370,000) and Germany (1,240,000) have already taken in a lot of refugees from Ukraine. It is mainly mothers with their children and older people who are being looked after and cared for. I am missing the overall support provided by Great Britain, France, Italy and Spain. Weapons alone will not help Ukraine, nor will financial aid, which is enormously important so that the Ukrainian state can survive financially!
From Germany I’d say: No worries! Support will continue. The announcement not to fund new projects is made to keep voters in oncoming elections away from pro-Russian AfD. After the elections, new funding will be found. Meanwhile, support will continue under current funding.
If this is Germany’s response as punishment for the streaming 2, it shows that the Germans have no heart, after all Ukraine continues to need to defend itself from an aggression that has already killed more than 1 million people. Women, children, the elderly, civilians and young people continue to die. And entire cities have been destroyed. Is this called revenge? Or punishment?
Ukraine supposedly blowing up Nord Stream is a bad piece of unsourced propaganda, I wrote about it here: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/marijnmarkus_ukraine-intelligence-propaganda-activity-7230132210928889856-yycG

To repeat a comment I made earlier :
If this is true, the country that murdered 8 million Ukrainians in WW2, put $60 billion/yr into the putler murder gangās war machine and foisted Minsk 1&2 on Ukraine, was hardly even beginning to make amends for that and now itās dropping almost out of sight.āØThanks for nothing scuzzballs.
The comments at the bottom of Marijnās post are worth reading btw.
What no diatribes and screeds by commenters on this site about how isolationist Germany is and how ignorant their taxpayers are and how hate filled their isolationist politicians are?
Oh, I guess those comments are only reserved for the US?
Germany gets a pass??? Why????
Thus is despicable. They are the third or fourth largest economy in the world, have essentially no debt, have financed Putins military expansion through their ignorant and self centered use of Russian gas and pipelines, and claimed that they had finally seen the light as far as the Russian danger.
The German people are decadent and arrogant, loving to preen about their superior morality since they only use āsoft powerā not fund their military all the while free loading off the US military who protects Europe, keeps sea lanes open for global trade, and allows them to constantly bitch about the US.
See above.
Germany announced this earlier this year. This is old news, this is what happens when a country runs out of money to fund a war. Somone has to pay the manufacturers of every war component. I hope this isnāt as bad as it sounds but Germany did announce this already.
This is all BS. In fact, germany will continue to support Ukraine with 4 Billion EUR per year. This is reduced from i think 8 bln (?) as Ukraine will get all the proceeds of the frozen ruzzian assets. When you add everything up, the total sum does not change.
