🇬🇧 INFANTRY LEGEND: 1000 days in combat. Fought behind enemy lines | Pokrovsk, Ukraine

10/03/2026

A 55-year-old Ukrainian infantryman from the 155th Mechanized Brigade “Anne of Kyiv” spent nearly 1,000 days on the frontline of the Russia-Ukraine war. In summer 2025, during the battle of Pokrovsk, he held a hidden position on the southern edge of the city for six months, while Russian assault groups pushed past him and the area fell behind enemy lines.

Wounded and in command of his position, he directed drones and artillery onto enemy infantry, ran a mortar position under constant fire, and captured a Russian reconnaissance soldier. Russian media had already claimed the city as taken while he was still fighting. He went in weighing 89 kg and came out weighing 60 kg.

A rare first-hand account of modern warfare: urban combat, close combat, drone warfare and survival behind enemy lines.
