Ukraine has a legitimate right to defend itself, the European Commission’s foreign policy spokesman said.

The US has not changed its policy on allowing Ukraine to use American weapons “to counter immediate threats across the border.”

This statement was made to journalists on Wednesday, August 7, by White House National Security Council Coordinator John Kirby in the context of events in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation, Bloomberg writes .

According to him, officials “will contact their Ukrainian colleagues to better understand the situation.”

The European Commission on Foreign Affairs also responded to the new breach of the Russian border. In a commentary to Suspilne , the commission’s representative Peter Stano stated that, according to international law, Ukraine “has a legal right to defend itself, including by striking the aggressor on its territory”:

“The EU continues to fully support Ukraine’s legitimate right to defend itself against Russian aggression and its efforts to restore its sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

  1. Kursk and Belgorod oblasts are historically Ukrainian land.
Ukraine has every right to take them back.
Problem is, they lack sufficient firepower, airpower and manpower to do the job thoroughly. The first two failures are down to the allies, the last one unfortunately is self-inflicted.
