The Ukrainian defense industry produced 154 units of artillery systems in 2024.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated this during today’s press conference.

“Last year we produced 154 artillery systems of domestic production. This is a record. In our opinion, 154 systems in a year is more than all NATO countries did together last year. This year we will do more,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy added.

The President did not specify which systems he was talking about, but it is likely to be 155-mm 2S22 Bohdana self-propelled howitzers.

According to previous official statements made in May 2024, the Ukrainian defense industry has reached the production rate of 10 Bohdana self-propelled howitzers per month.

Later, in October, it became known that Ukraine was producing up to 20 Bohdana self-propelled howitzers per month.

Thus, the total production of 154 self-propelled artillery systems is quite realistic. The production is financed both from the state budget of Ukraine and under the so-called “Danish model.”

An additional confirmation of the mass production of 2S22 is their constant supply to the units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

Militarnyi reported that these self-propelled artillery systems are already in service with the artillery units of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, the 26th and 44th Brigades, the marines, and the Liut Brigade.

Bohdana-B

In October 2024, a prototype of the Bohdana-B trailer artillery system was presented for the first time.

It is built on the carriage of the 152 mm 2A36 “Giatsint-B” gun, with structural modifications.

In addition to the absence of a protective shield and the changed guidance system, the barrel of the artillery system is visually distinguishable by a different fixation.

The recoil mechanism is covered by a protective box, so it is not possible to notice the changes.

  1. That’s a good achievement, in particular during a full-blown war. Artillery still plays an important role in this war. This goes especially for the ones the Ukrainians are using. The 155mm howitzers are more accurate and have a longer range than the old Soviet Union stuff.
