Western media outlets continue to reveal details of Trump’s scandalous phone call with European leaders.
Donald Trump’s refusal to impose new sanctions against Russia has shocked European leaders, German newspaper BILD reports , citing its sources.
After his conversation with Vladimir Putin, Trump held a telephone conversation with EU leaders, during which he actually signaled a sharp change in his policy regarding the war in Ukraine, the publication says.
BILD sources in the German government say that Trump is no longer demanding Putin’s agreement to a 30-day ceasefire and has no intention of imposing new sanctions against Russia that he previously promised to European allies.
According to sources, the participants in the conversation with Trump (which included German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Maloni, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky) were stunned by Trump’s statement that “Russia and Ukraine will now seek a solution between themselves.”
One of BILD’s interlocutors says that after these words, “everyone held their breath” and no one even dared to clarify whether this meant the US’s final refusal to support Ukraine.
According to sources, Berlin fears a complete abandonment of Washington’s current role in the conflict and the lifting of American sanctions on Russia.

According to The Wall Street Journal, in that conversation, the US president told the Europeans that the Russian dictator was not ready to end the war because he considered himself a winner in less than five minutes.
Although it was already clear to Europeans what Putin was thinking, this assessment was the first time Trump had directly voiced it. More recently, he had claimed that Putin sincerely wanted peace.
