The US President also compared the situation around Taiwan to a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.

US President Donald Trump said that Chinese leader Xi Jinping promised him not to attack Taiwan , at least while he remains in the White House, he said in an interview with Fox News .

“He said to me, ‘I will never do that as long as you are president.’ Xi said that to me, and I said, ‘Well, I appreciate that,’ but he also said, ‘I’m very patient, and China is very patient,'” Trump told reporters.

The US president gave the interview before meeting Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in Alaska. He compared the situation around Taiwan to a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.

“I’ll tell you, you know, you have a very similar situation with President Xi of China and Taiwan, but I don’t believe that’s going to happen while I’m here. We’ll see,” Trump said.Read also:

Recall that the leaders of the United States and China held their first “confirmed” telephone conversation during Trump’s second presidential term in June 2025. Also in April, Trump said that Xi had called him, but did not specify when the conversation took place.
