Tommy Robinson has been welcomed to Washington DC by the Trump administration and Republican congressmen.
The far-Right activist met Joe Rittenhouse, an adviser at the state department, and Randy Fine, a Republican congressman, while visiting the United States this week.
Robinson – whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon – said he was visiting the country to give a “warning” and make “alliances and friendships”.
He was given a tour of the state department, the US foreign ministry, on Wednesday by Mr Rittenhouse, who said he was “honoured” to host the “free speech warrior”.
“The world and the West is a better place when we fight for freedom of speech and no one has been on the front lines more than Tommy,” Mr Rittenhouse said. “Good to see you my friend!”

On Tuesday, Robinson met Mr Fine, a Florida congressman, Keith Self, another Republican congressman, and Gen Mike Flynn, the former national security adviser.
Mr Fine said it was “great to meet” Robinson, adding: “Thanks for leading the fight!”.
Mr Self added: “Great meeting with American Patriot [Gen Flynn] and British Patriot [Robinson] today. DEFEND WESTERN CIVILIZATION. BAN SHARIA.”
Robinson said he also had “talks scheduled” with “members of Donald Trump’s team” during his time in Washington.
He was jailed in 2024 after admitting multiple breaches of an injunction made in 2021, which barred him from repeating false allegations against a Syrian refugee schoolboy who had successfully sued him for libel.
The ex-BNP member has previous convictions for assault, using a fake passport and mortgage fraud.
Political parties on the Right in Britain have distanced themselves from Robinson, with Nigel Farage saying he will not allow him to join Reform UK.
His welcome in the US follows a series of interventions in British politics by the Trump administration.
Sarah Rogers, Mr Trump’s free speech tsar, has been an outspoken critic of Sir Keir Starmer’s Government and freedom of speech in Britain since taking her position in October last year.
Mrs Rogers, the state department’s under-secretary for public diplomacy, has criticised the Prime Minister for cancelling local elections, curbing rights to jury trials and not banning cousin marriage.
Earlier this month, she suggested Britons prosecuted for speech offences should seek refuge in the US. Mrs Rogers also compared Britain under Labour to Vladimir Putin’s Russia after the Government threatened to ban Elon Musk’s X over the creation of naked images of women and children by its AI service, Grok.
The US state department has also launched freedom.gov, a website that could let British and European internet users bypass online safety laws.
