According to journalists, the Vatican negotiated Maduro’s evacuation to Russia.

In December, the Vatican attempted to negotiate with the United States to allow Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro to flee to Russia. The Vatican allegedly believed the Kremlin was willing to trade Venezuela for White House concessions regarding Ukraine, according to The Washington Post, citing numerous informed sources and obtained documents.

According to the publication, on Christmas Eve, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, who is the second person in the Vatican after the Pope and is responsible for diplomatic negotiations, urgently summoned the American ambassador to the Holy See, Brian Birch, and questioned him about America’s plans for Venezuela.

According to documents, the cardinal spent several days seeking a direct conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is considered the architect of the American operation in Venezuela.

In a conversation with the American ambassador, Parolin stated that Russia was ready to provide asylum to Maduro and begged the Americans for patience in pushing the Venezuelan dictator to agree to such an offer.

According to a source in The Washington Post, Cardinal Parolin has a deep personal interest in Venezuela, having previously served as the Vatican’s ambassador to Caracas. He also served as a mediator in peace talks between Ukraine and Russia.

According to documents obtained by the publication, at a meeting with Birch on December 24, Parolin stated that Russia was ready to accept Maduro. He also shared what the documents describe as a “rumor”: that Venezuela had become a “decisive element” in negotiations on the Russian-Ukrainian war, and that “Moscow would abandon Venezuela if it was satisfied with Ukraine.”

However, according to journalists, the exchange of Maduro for Ukraine failed due to the dictator’s own stubbornness. He didn’t believe Trump would actually resort to military action and considered Washington’s threats a mere bluff.Read also:

“He didn’t agree to a deal. He was just going to sit back and watch people create a crisis,” one of the publication’s sources told the outlet.

In this context, in particular, they mention an episode in which, several days before the American operation, Maduro danced on Venezuelan television, which the Americans regarded as an open mockery of Trump.

  1. This looks like it has already blown up in the face of the WH. Oil companies said yesterday they would have to be crazy to go back into Venezuela. This kidnapping might have been all for nothing, except any intel the CIA can get out of Maduro.

    • From AI:
Chevron: Chevron is the only major U.S. oil company currently operating in Venezuela under a special license and is the nation’s largest private oil producer. Nelson indicated that the company was “poised” to significantly ramp up its existing production by about 50% over the next 18 to 24 months, given the proper permissions. He expressed the company’s commitment to building a better future in the country.

Armstrong Oil & Gas: Armstrong was enthusiastic, stating, “We are ready to go to Venezuela”. He described the country in real estate terms as “prime real estate”.

Hilcorp Energy: Hildebrand expressed his company was “fully committed and ready to go to rebuild the infrastructure in Venezuela”.

Continental Resources: Hamm, while noting the country had “its challenges,” said the opportunity “excites me as an explorationist”.

Trafigura, and John Addison of Vitol: Executives from these energy trading companies indicated they were already working with the administration to move and market the seized Venezuelan oil globally.

Once the security system gets into place and the democrats get voted in, things will improve dramatically.

  2. The security system is the big stumbling block. How can you protect investments without boots on the ground?
