There is nothing inherently wrong with a nation seeking to acquire territory through lawful means. Unfortunately, it rarely works that way.
BUT – There is everything wrong with a nation using bullying tactics, or economic or military coercion to take that which does not belong to it.
No matter the final outcome with the Greenland charade – the approach of the United States has been one which has permanently broken trust with our European allies.
All of this – including the Vice President’s presumptuous and arrogant comments below, beg a question. What is really going on here?
I will state it plainly. So plainly it hurts. Brace Yourself.
- Greenland is really about advancing Putin/Trump’s dream of a tri-partite world divided between the U.S., Russia and China.
- Having abandoned Ukraine and embraced the Russian narrative and objective for Ukraine, President Trump is looking to create a North American empire of which Canada and Greenland play a strategic role to offset the one third of the world he will agree should belong to China and the other third he will agree should belong to Russia.
- The discussions on peace and ending the war in Ukraine have proven to be one of the great charades of the 21st century. This is about resetting U.S/Russian relations, validating Russian warcrimes and rejecting the historic freedom-based U.S. vision of foreign policy for a Soviet/transactional vision.
- Validating Russian warcrimes is necessary for the present U.S. trajectory given that the United States has officially refused to rule out military intervention as part of its territorial objectives with Panama, Canada and Greenland. If Trump condemns the Russian invasion of Ukraine, he limits is own land grabs.
- It has already been decided that the United States will abandon Taiwan to mainland Chinese invasion and warcrimes when they are launched in 2028. The White House will use the same arguments against Taiwan’s right to self defense that they are using against Ukraine’s right to self defense – Namely, If a smaller country defends itself against a larger invading nation, the smaller country is guilty of creating the war by refusing to surrender.
Things are moving fast. It is difficult to keep up. But we will soon reach a point when the American people will be forced to make some very, very difficult decisions.
One last point – Mr. Vance is a charicature. He has emerged as the self righteous, school marm hand slapper of the world. He tried to spank the EU in Munich. Then Zelensky. Now Denmark.

#5 the US doesn’t recognize Taiwan’s independence and just like most UN members it has an One China policy. Only a dozen small countries do so. Intervening militarily against an invasion by China would be legally awkward, similar to Russia supporting Donetsk and Luhansk separatists in 2014-15.

DW P. All China has to do is proclaim Taiwan as the twenty-fourth province, sixth autonomous region, and third admin. region with complete devolvement to its government of all legislative, security, and economic matters. And simply live and let live. What could the U.S. do? Really? 🤔
With the close commercial ties between the two Chinese polities and the attendant technology transfer from the island to mainland, it is NOT in China’s interest forcibly to ‘re-unify’ Taiwan. Recognizing Taiwan as a part of China without doing anything would be a shrewd one; but dictators can be deluded or just plain dumb. 😕
EDIT P.S., one change would be no more military exercises on the Taiwan strait by the U.S Navy. Those exercises were needlessly provocative. If China or Russia executed joint military exercises with Cuba or each other in the strait between Cuba and Florida, the U.S. would go ape-sh*t. (At least that used to be true; with the homo-erotic alliance between Putrid and his pet Trumpanzee, such an exercise might elicit, at best, a token chastisement.) 🤭

Moscow would sure love for all of europe to get caught up in a battle over Greenland.

Just the facts: the US is fighting with tariffs on its allies in America and Europe, the new administration is destroying the US economy and preparing society for civil war, is friends with Russia and justifies the actions of the aggressor, is forcing yesterday’s allies in Ukraine into a strange peace and is demanding the return of non-existent investments with the magic figure of 350 billion, officials are declaring a non-existent encirclement of Ukrainian troops.

DW P. The audacity of JD asshole and orange boy never cease to amaze me.
In what fantasy island parallel universe is any of this ok / acceptable to any sane folks with more than two brain cells to rub together? I still keep pinching myself to make sure I am not dreaming this dystopian reality that is unfolding. I know all of this will end in tears at some point, I just hope it doesn’t somehow end up in some kind of nuclear showdown…..

JD Vance is a total rookie, devoid of any in-depth understanding of global geo-politics. His comments to Zelensky at the orchestrated, shameful White House Feb. 28 charade, were pathetic. Vance is totally sub-servient to Trumps’ wishes and does not have the foreign policy knowledge, intellectual capacity or testicular fortitude to comprehend the global situation. And he’s the Vice President!! Sad to witness how the quality of US political leadership has deteriorated under the current Administration. November 2028 cannot come soon enough.
……..
JD VANCE’S blistering 2016 CRITIQUE of TRUMP resurfaces, GOES VIRAL

“If Trump condemns the Russian invasion of Ukraine, he limits is own land grabs.”
And there you have the trumputler strategy in a nutshell.
Trumpkov, with the help of his putlerist asshole friend Witless, will likely recognize 20% of Ukraine as russian, because “they speak russian.” **
As Roman Sheremeta pointed out, the logic is no different from stating that all English-speaking nations should be ruled by England.
** btw, the “concession” that putler has made is that he will not pursue his absurd claims on Odesa and Mykolaiv, provided he gets all the oblasts he wants.
He should be told to shove it up his jacksey.
“Trump is looking to create a North American empire of which Canada and Greenland play a strategic role to offset the one third of the world he will agree should belong to China and the other third he will agree should belong to Russia.”
Only one fly in the ointment is Europe. If they get their act together, which they appear to be doing, then the world might be carved up into 3, but not as Trump hopes.
