The police have begun investigating Prime Minister Robert Fico for treason and other crimes. The impetus is a criminal complaint filed by SaS, which has been joined by thousands of people, says the party leader.
The police have begun investigating Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) for treason and other crimes. The leader of the opposition party SaS, Branislav Gröhling, wrote this on social media.
“A month ago, I filed a criminal complaint against Fico for treason and other crimes. In addition to my colleagues from SaS, more than 13,000 people joined this criminal complaint, making it the largest criminal complaint in history,” said Gröhling.

He praised the work of the prosecutor’s office.
According to him, the criminal report went from the Prosecutor General’s Office (GP) of the Slovak Republic to the regional prosecutor’s office and now to the police. “I am convinced that Fico is suspected of serious crimes, so I appreciate that both the prosecutor’s office and the police are acting on this matter and have not swept it under the carpet,” he added.
Representatives of the opposition SaS filed several criminal complaints with the GP SR at the end of February. According to them, Fico may have committed several crimes with his statements and steps aimed at stopping the supply of so-called emergency electricity to Ukraine. According to Gröhling, the criminal complaints are focused on suspicions of abuse of power by a public official, treason, inhumanity, breach of duties in the management of foreign property, or terrorist attack.
