Russia made significantly less progress in Ukraine in January 2026 than it did at the end of 2025. Over the past month, the enemy occupied 245 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory—almost half as much as in December or November.
DeepState analysts shared the relevant statistics. An infographic was published on the project’s Telegram channel.
Although the occupiers achieved half as many results, they carried out assaults with almost the same intensity. This figure dropped by only 4% compared to December.
“Although most military personnel say that January is still relatively less stressful than the month before last,” DeepState noted.
In January, the majority of assault operations—33%—were recorded in the Pokrovsky sector. 21% of all enemy attacks occurred in the Gulyai-Polye sector (where the increase in assaults increased by 1.75 times). Third, fourth, and fifth place were the Konstantinovsky (12%), Limansky (8%), and Aleksandrovsky (8%) sectors.
Statistically, the aggressor state’s forces achieved their greatest success in the Slavyansk region. There, 3% of assaults accounted for almost 20% of Ukraine’s territorial losses.
