Sweden detains bulk carrier from russia, suspected of marine pollution

On Sunday, April 12, the Swedish Coast Guard detained the Panamanian dry cargo ship Hui Yuan near the city of Ystad. The ship, which was sailing from the russian port to Las Palmas (Spain), is suspected of serious violations of environmental legislation. This was reported on the official website of the Swedish agency.

According to law enforcement officials, the day before, an air patrol recorded how the bulk carrier dumped coal residues into the Baltic Sea. Such actions are a direct violation of the Environmental Protection Code.

Today, the coast guard crew boarded the ship to conduct an inspection. A preliminary investigation has now been launched, and the prosecutor has already decided to hold formal hearings in this case. The ship will remain under the control of the Swedish authorities until all the circumstances of the incident are clarified.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on March 1, it became known that Belgium, with the support of France, detained and confiscated a tanker from the russian “shadow fleet”.

As a reminder, on January 28, the French military intercepted the Grinch tanker, which is suspected of belonging to the russian “shadow fleet”.
