 The Arctic Metagaz gas tanker , flying the flag of the aggressor country Russia, is on fire in the Mediterranean Sea .

This was reported by Reuters , citing sources . This tanker is under sanctions by Great Britain and the United States of America. It is noted that the fate of the ship’s crew is unknown.

According to tracking data on the MarineTraffic platform, the last time the sanctioned vessel reported its location off the coast of Malta was on Monday, March 2.

One of the journalists’ interlocutors suggested that the tanker could have been attacked by a drone. Ukraine is suspected of carrying out this operation.

Meanwhile, footage of a burning tanker is being posted online. The vessel is reportedly burning off the coast of Libya.

On March 1, it became known that the Belgian Armed Forces had detained a Russian “shadow fleet” tanker for the first time . The operation was carried out with the support of France. The vessel was escorted to the port of Zeebrugge for further arrest.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomed Belgium’s actions and called on Europe to seize tankers of the Russian “shadow fleet .” The oil transported in them should be used for Europe’s security, the head of state believes.

In February, Zelensky also imposed  sanctions against companies that service the Russian tanker fleet.
