An unidentified drone has been spotted in the Kocaeli province in northwestern Turkey . According to the Turkish Ministry of Interior on its X social media page , preliminary data suggests it is a Russian drone.

“According to preliminary data, an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was detected today in the Chubuklubala area of the Izmit district of Kocaeli province. It is believed to be an Orlan-10 of Russian origin,” the statement said.

The Turkish Interior Ministry added that the investigation into the incident is ongoing. The agency noted that the Orlan-10 is used for reconnaissance.

Recall that the Orlan-10 was adopted by Russia in 2013. It is a multi-purpose drone, which is most often used for surveillance of long-range and local objects in hard-to-reach areas. In 2022, a strike modification of this UAV was introduced.
